A Little Bit About Me

My story so far...

Every child can learn. Just not on the same day or in the same way"

-George Evans

I absolutely love to learn & want to share that enthusiasm with others. I believe that my desire to become a teacher has always been in me, even when I didn't think it was.

I strongly believe that students should be taught the skills to live a full & fulfilling life. Critical thinking, reading, & writing stamina are essential to today's student. The classroom should be a safe space for discovery & making mistakes- it's how we learn!

I grew up in Flin Flon, MB but moved to Brandon for Grade 12. Growing up, I spent many years as an assistant coach in the CanSkate program. After graduating, I spent several years working at the library, including a summer managing the summer reading program. There I planned programs, activities, & spent large amounts of time interacting & communicating with children & parents. I took my BA at BU, majoring in English & minoring in history & psychology. After completing my BA, I dove straight back into school to pursue my persistent dream of becoming a teacher!

When I'm not studying...

Pursuits & Passions

French & Other Languages

I'm always excited to learn something new. I took French Immersion until high school & completed an introductory (refresher) course in university.

Après des années passées dans la classe d'immersion française, j'ai appris à aimer le défi supplémentaire d'apprendre une langue en même temps que d'autres cours.

지금 한국어를 배우고 있어요!

Learning languages has improved comprehension & an eagerness to self-educate

Cosplay

A growing hobby, I have cosplayed for nearly a decade. Cosplay has been transformative for skills & interests. It involves organization, planning, & time-management, as well as a variety of crafting abilities. I also learned to work through trial & error, to be creative, & to take on new, often self-taught tasks.

Reading

Reading is a fundamental skill. I try to read both literary & genre/popular fiction, as well as some fiction works. My favourite genre as of late is Young Adult which has equipped me with a plentiful skill of recommendations for students.

Psst...wanna see what I'm reading?

Video Games

Perhaps unconventional, video games have been a major component of my growth. They have taught me patience, perseverance, & problem-solving.

Video games offer a unique approach to story-telling & illustrate various components of composition.

Organization

Planners, colour-coordination, & filing bring me the greatest peace. Knowing where things are & what to expect save me time & space. When I am organized, I perform my best.

Dungeons & Dragons

A newer hobby of mine, Dungeons & Dragons has improved my conflict resolution skills, increases creativity & mental math abilities, & group negotiation. As more people become interested in the game, I would love to introduce the endless adventures to others!

Think we'd be a great fit?
